Yoga

योग = य + ओ + ग + अ = Y + o + g + a = Yoga

Yoga (Sanskrit: योग) is a Sanskrit word derived from the verb root called ‘yuj’ (युज्) “to attach, join, harness, yoke”. In the context of yoga sutras, the word Yoga means union of the individual consciousness with the universal consciousness. Word ‘Yoga’ is a Romanization of the word ‘Yog’ and is pronounced as ‘Yog’ only. Alphabet ‘a’ is added at the end for the reader to know that the ‘g’ sound at the end of the word is complete and not a half sound. The practice of yoga which can be perceived as a group of physical, mental, and spiritual practices has been thought to date back to pre-Vedic Indian traditions; possibly in the Indus valley civilization around 3000 BCE.
